Wayfarer/The Decay Split LP

by Wayfarer

/
  • Streaming + Download

The Decay have always been one of my favourite local bands and full of awesome dudes. We had a bunch of tracks, they had some too. We both wanted to release them somehow but were broke and lazy. We figured if we both worked together it might actually get done out of fear of letting the other band down.

So here it is. Their half is incredible and I couldn't be more proud of ours. Be sure to check out the full free download here:

Collide 02:09
They would sit around in smoke and gaze Into the low sky line in hopes the other fades And they would never touch No, they could barely breathe She would close her eyes as he looked away They were the dust upon old lovers things Worn like a crown Heavy as that empty page Trying to get lost inside old memories Instead losing touch losing time, losing all they swore they Thought they’d be Lose one another so easily
2.
When we finally got past hope When we found just what we craved most A place where all the poets torched each other’s work They swore that you were far too young Far too young to be this made up With the serpents tongue and the sophist’s gentle air But as you move along only look back to watch it burn and then they’ll see That maybe this is what we’re made of Shards of broken glass and gasoline And as you move along only step back to bask in all you used to be Closed eyes on warning signs, they liked to keep you tongue-in-cheek As they pass away They told me not to look away They told me not to hope they’d stay They told me all these means were ends Asked what made me think I was time well spent Move on just move on we’ll move on until we Pass away in sheets and lace Tired minds that never dream This is the way they feel and the way we felt
3.
Got caught, closed eyes again Worst part is you’d never believe me Got soft, but they kept that grin The kind that shows we’re all too easy Taped a note to your upstairs window A hard reminder, it read like her skin felt This was never home, you were never home We once fought so hard It shaped our faces we brandish scars they showed off beauty marks They saw the devil in our hearts, we watched theirs bend and fall apart Trying to earn its weight in gold, try to age with grace and not get old Got caught, making eyes again How do I show you’re worth more than you think Got soft, I watched you fall right in Though I knew you were barely breathing Losing track of all this measurable time And then it’s 4 am we’ve fallen out of line We were the flicker our matches ignite We weren’t always this broken up We used to laugh away the days we used to bank on the fact that If you burned up I’d cough up smoke If you lost the nerve I’d start to choke We’re losing grip, we’ve stripped these gears I guess it all seems fit we watch our teeth scrape stone together

I still walk that way, through the courtyard where I spent my 20th birthday You had that poor man’s bottle of champagne Safety in architecture, the street lamps traced a familiar picture We were kids wrapped up in our own world We still feel left for dead in the city where we first met I worked it off Back there you never had a chance Through clenched teeth they’ll say You never should have left that way It’s how you know these now are your days Dark blurs in hard light As clumsy feet sway off time It once looked the same, an empty page in shades of grey “It makes it easy,” you used to say, “When you never have to make out shape” We’ll close our eyes, put pen to lines and trace out paths for the rest of our lives And we’ll hope we drew it out right Because when it’s going black and my eyes burn red from the coughed up smoke of those done-up kids We might start walking home with them We might start sleeping alone again So we’ll show our eyes, hands in plain sight Leaves notes on walls We know they’ll never find To be sure we make it out all right To be sure we’re never Dark blurs in hard light As clumsy feet sway off time When they asked you if you’d come inside Not sure just what they hoped to find Just look away, hands at your side It makes it easier To pretend we’re all right Yearn for the sunlight Hope so bad this time You might care to see it light up their eyes To see your dark blur in the hard light

The light will find those who never stop looking, that’s what the tape sang It’s what you meant on that day with your hair in your face when you pulled on my sleeve, when you had me stay You were all her I was the snake but it was me who was fed that day You sat crossed legs, showed how a look could pierce veins We walked home our own way, with our blood on my face, a little colour to a dark shade of grey I guess that we’ve all had those years Where cold cuts to the bone, heat brings fevers and tears Turn those blue eyes and off whites into handshakes and half smiles So we can step outside to both bathe in soft light We’ll both break from that smile We’ll both give under the weight of the thought of losing someone so young Before she’s old enough to even fall in love To even realize she’s changed the lives of everyone she’s touched As we lean on the hopes of a child We’ve accepted the failure Took our blood over wine With a temperament, not so concerned with sin It was the fever of those years that left us slack-jawed again Take sides then we all fall this time As life pours like smoke from a child’s eyes Some hope, some pray, we all think twice About what it means to live by ones side
